BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF TOBI STAR ABRAMS
I enjoy capturing the beauty of nature, especially while working outdoors with acrylics and pastels . Frequently my art work is accented with collage materials because I love creating textured compositions /paintings .I strongly believe a painting should resemble a sculpture only on a flat plane. Art that is both tactile and visual leaves people with an original experience and one that I hope they will find as profoundly inspiring as the real landscape .
I graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb , Illinois. with a B.S. degree in Biology and Art .I was working on an M.F.A. from Northern with a concentration in painting and drawing. During the spring and fall I take art workshops throughout the United States and Canada. My favorite places to paint are the National Parks in the U.S.,in the southwest. Before I became a full time artist, I taught art to adults and youngsters in several locations for 30 years part time.
My own art work has appeared in museum shows, cultural art centers, schools, and libraries . I WAS HONORED LAST YEAR BY HAVING ONE OF MY PAINTINGS
IN A TRAVELING SHOW , AT THE WATER WORKS MUSEUM IN MONTANA.MY EXCITING SCENES ON WOMEN'S ISSUES HAVE BEEN JURIED INTO THE KOEHNLINE MUSEUM OF ART FOR THE LAST 5 OR 6 YEARS. MY PAINTINGS HAS ALSO APPEARED IN MANY ART SHOWS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES and LOCALLY.
